It just felt like complexity for the sake of complexity take it away, and Infinite didn't have much to say.

All the multiverse stuff was very "look how clever", and honestly I think a lot of the praise came from people who thought they were very smart for being able to follow it, though really it wasn't that difficult. I remembered enough of the story to know I wasn't that excited to see it again. Absolutely dire mouse options made it a nightmare to play on PC. Gameplay was, generally, "fine", but it had a lot of weird problems, like turning it into a Halo with regenerating shields and a two-weapon limit didn't really fit with the rest of the game. I replayed the whole trilogy recently and it was the only one I couldn't finish. Worst Bioshock game, and it's not even close. When people praise Infinite's story, I think they are talking about the way you have two seemingly unrelated plots across multiple games, and at the very last moment the game convincingly says, "hey, we dropped clues for you all along that this was coming but you still didn't see it." I think you could completely cut the ending and still have a solid story but what you're left with is a Bioshock that belongs with the other titles in mechanics only. Booker wasn't a random outsider he was fated to be there all along! Finally, you get this last epic moment that transcends Comstock/Columbia and links Infinite with 1 and 2. Now the player gets to experience everything as an outsider, which is totally different from someone who grew up in this circus town. The population living there are all entrenched in this bizarre culture. This is important because without this task, Booker has no reason to be in Columbia. The pretense of the story is that you're rescuing Elizabeth to clear your debt. A majority of the story occurs outside of a cutscene, which can be difficult to process when there's a voiceover during a firefight or just exploration in general. The audio tapes play a large role in this, but it comes out in the gameplay as the idyllic scene breaks down into revolution. Most of the game is discovering the religion, history, and politics of Columbia as it happens around you. The main thread is this floating world Comstock created. The ideas themselves are great, but it needed to be better written and executed. It's just that most of the issues imo lie in the story structure and execution. In fact, I found a lot of people hating the 2 weapons restriction thing while I quite enjoyed it as it forced me to try all weapons and kept things fresh during combat, instead of finishing the entire game depending on one or two weapons I liked, it gave me reason to try every thing and really, all weapons in this game are fun to use. I don't have any problems with the gameplay. I'm not saying the overall game's plot was boring to follow, or that I didn't have fun with the game, but more like I felt the story could have been written and executed in a better way.

These twists should have had more time to flesh out and give the player some time to think about what he had seen, not after the final fight and before the credits roll. Why structure the story in this way ? Why spend the entire game without any meaningful progression for the original plot bar just travelling with Elizabeth just to reveal every single thing just before the credits roll ? This for me is really terrible pacing issue. 90% of the game is just that, then suddenly, after the final fight and in literally the last 30 minutes, the game stops and throws ton of information on you, literally every single twist and revelation in the story is presented to you in the last 30 minutes, then the game suddenly ends, leaving you with a shocked and confused look on your face, having to either replay the game again to gather all pieces of what you didn't understand or simply google it. I felt the story had awful pacing.įor a game which lasts about 10 hours or few more, the story was nothing bar you travelling with Elizabeth trying to deliver her so that you can clear your debt. While I do agree the ending has mind blowing vibe, and I liked Elizabeth as a character (great AI companion by the way). Everyone seems to think the story is great, mostly due to its ending. However, I had a problem with the story, a big one in fact. It's nothing groundbreaking but a pretty solid and fun shooter. Gun fights were explosive, and all the weapons were fun to use. I really liked the shooting and powers mechanics. It was a pretty entertaining experience overall.
